I remember firelight, and you remember smoke, 2025

I remember firelight, and you remember smoke is an eight-armed metallic Hanukkah candelabrum, shaped like a spider. Instead of emitting light, each arm contains a speaker that releases the sound of a fire. They grow from spark to blaze, to tremendous fire, looping from ignition to collapse. The work’s physical and symbolic architecture carries an inherent duality: the menorah – an emblem of miracle and light – appears somber in a difficult historical moment for the Jewish people, while the spider embodies both creator and predator, a figure of generative complexity and entanglement.
