A me gli occhi, 2021

Neon sign, aluminum, transformer. 127 x 36 x 7 cm

The nature of a neon sign is to capture the gaze, and to demand attention. The sentence “a me gli occhi” (eyes on me) is stated as an imperative, promising but also vaguely menacing. It is the traditional sentence that starts something magical: while pronouncing it towards their audience, the magicians set the rules for the magic about to happen. But it is also a deception, which leads the audience to focus their attention on the wrong detail, while the trick takes place elsewhere. This time, though, no trick is performed.
