R.U.?  (self-portrait), 2022

Audio track, speaker, iron structure 1’20”, 600x270x420 cm

R.U.? (self-portrait) recalls the shape of a dome, the remains of a house of worship that belong to a dystopic world imagined by the artist for the exhibition We will name her Tempest. “Are you looking at me?” urges a somber voice emanating from four megaphones. “Il me fout le mauvais oeil” [he put the evil eye on me], replies another voice after some silence, stressing the use of the “evil eye” as an instrument for re-establishing order. Within a dynamic of visual confrontations, gazes, and counter-gazes, the installation addresses the confrontational power relation between the observer and the person observed.
